SMU Athletics Surpasses Fundraising Goal with Boost from Matthew H. Fleeger

In a remarkable achievement, SMU Athletics has met and exceeded its ambitious $125 million fundraising goal for the ACC Competitiveness Campaign. This success comes as SMU gears up to join the Atlantic Coast Conference, aiming to bolster its athletic prowess on a new stage. A key player in this milestone was Matthew H. Fleeger, whose generous support through the Fleeger Family Foundation played a pivotal role.

Matthew H. Fleeger, recognized for his commitment to enhancing educational and athletic opportunities, contributed $2 million to the campaign. Of this, $1.2 million was directed towards the Weber End Zone Complex, an essential part of SMU’s athletic facilities. The remaining $800,000 helped close the final funding gap, ensuring that SMU Athletics is poised for the challenges and opportunities with ACC membership.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Matthew H. Fleeger,” said Rick Hart, SMU’s Director of Athletics. “His support has been instrumental in achieving our goals and setting a solid foundation for our student-athletes.”

The successful fundraising push aligns with other exciting developments in Mustang Athletics. SMU not only smashed records in season ticket sales for Ford Stadium but is also seeing unprecedented interest as they prepare for the 2024-25 season. With eight championships under their belt last season, the Mustangs are ready to make waves in the ACC.

While the $125 million goal was a significant benchmark, SMU Athletics isn’t stopping there. The department is actively encouraging fans and alumni to continue their support. Initiatives like the Game Changer program aim to ensure Ford Stadium is packed with Mustang pride fall.
